Appreciating the past and celebrating the future by keeping the family dream alive here at Hidden Hangar Winery and Ranch.
Hidden Hangar Ranch was once the home of Barnstorming planes that used the grassy knoll as their runway to the sky. From 1928 until the 1950's the municipal airport, located two miles east of Denison, was known as Gray Field. It served as a training airport for "wanna-be" pilots and a fuel stop for those traveling between Oklahoma City and Dallas. Originally, the airport consisted of one large hangar and several small "T hangars". Unfortunately, the hangar was destroyed in a late night fire in the 1960's. The concrete slab of the hangar still partially exists today.
Hidden Hangar is a family dream that was established in the 1990's. The second and third generations are now continuing that dream.
Hidden Hangar is part of the Texoma American Viticultural Area (AVA), one of eight AVA's that exist in Texas.
Major changes are in store for Hidden Hangar Vineyard and Winery! 2024 is the last production year for the Hidden Hangar legacy vineyard. Total removal of the legacy vineyard will be complete in October 2024. While the vineyard removal is an emotional experience for the Hidden Hangar Crew, it kicks off the next chapter in story of Hidden Hangar.
The legacy vineyard removal is part of the Hidden Hangar expansion and modernization plan, which paves the way for new varietal/rootstock selection, a vineyard design optimized for mechanization, and an the implementation of an improved sustainability model. Design planning will continue over the next several months.
In the interim, Hidden Hangar will expand its current cow/calf operation, and establish new livestock programs in alignment with our future vineyard sustainability model.
Hidden Hangar will continue winery operations, to produce award-winning Texas wines, and to introduce new agricultural programs.
We hope to you see you at Hidden Hangar Winery and Ranch!
Cheers, Y'all!
