Appreciating the past and celebrating the future by keeping the family dream alive here at Hidden Hangar Ranch.
Hidden Hangar Ranch began as a hub for barnstorming planes in the late 1920s, using a grassy knoll as a makeshift runway. From 1928 through the 1950s, it operated as Gray Field, a municipal airport east of Denison that trained aspiring pilots and served as a fuel stop between Oklahoma City and Dallas. The original airport included one large hangar and several smaller "T hangars," though the main hangar was lost to a fire in the 1960s, with only part of the concrete slab remaining today.
In the 1990s, the site was transformed into Hidden Hangar Vineyard. Later generations expanded the vineyard and opened a winery in 2017, producing award-winning Texas estate wines through 2025. However, extreme weather damaged the vineyard, leading to its removal in 2024. By 2025, due to declining alcohol sales, changing consumer preferences, and supply chain issues, the winery ceased operations.
Today, Hidden Hangar has shifted its focus to agribusiness, emphasizing livestock production and regenerative agriculture initiatives.
Nestled in rolling pastures and surrounded by natural woodlands, Hidden Hangar Ranch is dedicated to sustainable, humane, and pasture-based livestock farming. The land is carefully managed to support the health of the soil, the animals, and the surrounding ecosystem.
Grass-Fed Angus Cattle
The heart of the operation is a herd of Angus cattle, raised entirely on pasture. These black-coated, hardy animals thrive in a rotational grazing system that mimics natural herd movement, allowing grasslands to regenerate between grazing periods. The cattle are never fed grain or growth hormones, and their diet consists of high-quality forage, supplemented with minerals as needed. This results in lean, flavorful beef with high omega-3 content and deep marbling—prized by health-conscious consumers and local chefs alike.
Kiko Goats
Complementing the cattle are Kiko goats, a hardy meat breed originally developed in New Zealand. Known for their resistance to parasites and low maintenance needs, Kikos are ideal for the rugged terrain and brushy areas of the farm. The goats help manage undergrowth and invasive weeds, contributing to pasture health while producing tender, lean meat. Their strong maternal instincts and rapid growth rate make them a reliable and sustainable livestock option for small-scale meat production.
Rhode Island Red Chickens
Adding diversity to the farm are Rhode Island Red chickens, a dual-purpose heritage breed celebrated for both egg production and meat quality. These birds free-range during the day, scratching through pastures and garden plots, helping control pests while fertilizing the land. They lay large, brown eggs with rich yolks and produce flavorful, firm meat. The chickens are housed in mobile coops that are rotated regularly to ensure fresh forage and optimal sanitation.
Hidden Hangar Philosophy
Hidden Hangar follows regenerative and ethical practices, avoiding synthetic inputs and prioritizing animal welfare, soil health, and biodiversity. Every animal is raised with respect and care, resulting in nutritious products that reflect the quality of the environment and the dedication of the Hidden Hangar Team.
